Peter Pan and Wendy
A one-act
musical in 5 scenes
Based on the book by James Barrie
Running Time: 45 Minutes
About
the Play
First performed professionally in 1997, this show has been
produced many times since with great success at elementary
and junior high schools. A charming, very lively short
version of the beloved story, this script is just right for
large performing groups and younger actors. Staging is
remarkably simple -- the play has been effectively
performed with a set made almost entirely of colored
cardboard. Functional set pieces needed are two small beds,
a window box, a large rock, a rowboat on casters, and a
ship's rail and plank. Flying may be suggested by a small
trampoline hidden behind a bed. A follow spot is suggested
for one number in which Peter throws shadows on the wall.
Tinkerbell is played by a real (silent) little girl,
not a spotlight. And since no flying is necessary, Peter
may be played by a boy.
Based on a 1950s audio production of the story, the script
includes additional songs such as the rousing "Don't Give
Up the Ship". The highlights of the show are the very
memorable tunes "Me and My Shadow" and "Wendy's Lullaby."
An easy and fun show to put together, and one of those rare
productions which is very short but is suitable for a large
cast!
